Lunch at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay

My own happy birthday came shortly after. With all the housemoving frenzy going on, the celebration was kept ‘minimum’ with a casual lunch at the local Restaurant Gordon Ramsay.

The restaurant space is moderate and intimate. Although on differnet tables, all the diners sit kind of facing each other, as if it was some kind of a family dinner party. For someone who normally has great demand for privacy, it felt surprisingly, strangely comfortable.

As we sat, a greeter, a waitress, a sommelier, a floor manager, and a few other waiters came round the table to greet us, and take our different requests and orders. Soon we were happily sipping my birthday wine, having butter and our choice of breads.

The lunch set menu was very appealing and of excellent value. But we went for the a la carte just for the day. My starter, crabmeat salad with fruity jelly, edamame and seaweed was as tasty in the mouth as it looked. I can’t remember now what Shang ordered, but since I’ve not gotten a picture of it, it must have not been as beautiful nor tasty as mine. So…

For the main event, Shang went for the pork crackling, and I had the duck with seasonal vegetables. I almost didn’t want to share my duck with Shang, but he offered a piece of crackling which was impossible to say no to. Both of those two dishes were beautiful. And they washed down with the red perfectly!

After the main, we used a few pieces of cheese to finish the rest of the wine with. And I was prepared a little birthday cake at any point then since the floor manager’s winks to Shang were far too clumsy to ignore.

But still, when the little cake with a candle came, I was overjoyed. The manager, an old gentleman, prompted all that were dining in the room, to sing a happy birthday song to me. And as I’ve just mentioned, in that room, everyone became family for that 30 seconds.

With the special performance from the guest choir(and of course, the food, wine and excellent service), I strongly suggest anyone to have the birthday meal at the restaurant!

And one of the only days in that housemoving month that I dressed up. I went a little fringe crazy. But it was my birthday, and who wouldn’t love a bit of fringe once in a while?
